Scott Newgass, MSW

Mr. Newgass is a licensed clinical social worker with more than thirty years’ experience in the field of school consultation and clinical services. Currently the Principal Investigator for SAMHSA Project AWARE in Connecticut, he is an Education Consultant with the Connecticut State Department of Education where he oversees school mental health and school safety initiatives. He has presented nationally and internationally on subjects relating to the social-developmental needs of children and youth and school-based support services, with particular focus on helping schools develop capacity to address student, staff and organizational crises. With experience in clinical, hospital, community and disaster-relief settings, Scott has assisted schools, districts and communities throughout the United States following school crises, including Jonesboro, AR schools,and New York City schools post 9/11; he was instrumental in developing responses for the schools and community of Newtown, CT.
